The Italian growers’ organisation OP La Maggiolina has expanded its greenhouse area by another 25 hectares. The organisation specialises in growing baby leaf and with this expansion it is the largest of its kind in Europe. Of the total 235 hectares of greenhouses, 210 are certified organic, which is also a record. The crops have also been awarded the PGI label issued by the Consorzio di Tutela della Rucola della Piana del Sele.

Among the farms that never stopped during the emergency, despite being in the most risky areas, there is also the Op La Maggiolina di Martinengo, in the province of Bergamo.

The organization brings together 14 farms that all produce the same type of product, cutted  baby leaves, intended for the first range or unwashed packaged product.

The current campaign is rather dynamic and continuously evolving. While the Sicilian zucchini trend fluctuated a lot as temperatures influenced consumption and prices, the price of date tomatoes was rather stable also thanks to commercial agreements.

The dynamics of the prices of lemons must be kept under observation: the prices, in fact, risk to swell more than it would be logical to expect from the current market situation.

The market for organic vegetables grows in terms of marketed volumes, but on the price front the gap with the conventional product tends to decrease more and more.
